Family Tax Benefit Australia 2025: Part A and Part B Explained

Family Tax Benefit (FTB) is Australia's main family payment, helping eligible families with the cost of raising children. It has two parts — Part A (per child, income-tested) and Part B (per family, secondary earner tested) — and both are paid fortnightly or as an annual lump sum after tax time.

The maximum rate applies to families with income under $66,722. Above this, it reduces by 20c per dollar until reaching the base rate. The base rate then applies until $118,771, where it reduces by 30c per dollar until zero.

Can I get FTB Part B as a single parent?
Yes — single parents automatically qualify for the primary earner test for Part B. Only your own income is tested (secondary earner threshold). Single parents with income under $100,900 may receive Part B if their youngest child is under 18 and in school.
