Family Tax Benefit Australia 2025: Part A and Part B Explained
Family Tax Benefit (FTB) is Australia's main family payment, helping eligible families with the cost of raising children. It has two parts — Part A (per child, income-tested) and Part B (per family, secondary earner tested) — and both are paid fortnightly or as an annual lump sum after tax time.
FTB Part A — 2025-26 Rates
| Child Age | Maximum Rate (per child/fortnight) | Base Rate (per child/fortnight) |
|---|---|---|
| 0–12 years | $227.36 | $72.94 |
| 13–15 years | $295.82 | $72.94 |
| 16–19 years (study) | $295.82 | $72.94 |
The maximum rate applies to families with income under $66,722. Above this, it reduces by 20c per dollar until reaching the base rate. The base rate then applies until $118,771, where it reduces by 30c per dollar until zero.
FTB Part B — 2025-26 Rates
| Youngest Child Age | Maximum Rate (per family/fortnight) |
|---|---|
| Under 5 | $193.34 |
| 5–18 | $134.96 |
Part B is reduced when the secondary earner's income exceeds $6,059/year. It phases out completely at approximately $28,671 (youngest under 5) or $22,791 (youngest 5–18).
FTB Supplements
In addition to fortnightly payments, eligible families receive annual supplements after lodging their tax return:
- FTB Part A Supplement: $938.05 per eligible child (income ≤ $80,000)
- FTB Part B Supplement: $448.95 per family
